Letters
There is no God-given ruler in a democratic system of governance
On May 10, Moses Okwii wrote a letter in the Daily Monitor saying President Museveni is a God-given ruler and he went on to advise us to be patient with his regime.
With due respect, this assertion is misleading and wanting of the knowledge of principles of democracy. It is very clear that our Constitution outlines principles of democratic governance/leadership and not ruling. It is well articulated in Article 1 of the Constitution that power belongs to the people and that they have the power to determine how they should be governed, not ruled.
I feel that the letter was very misleading and fell short of the democratic principles that Uganda currently operates by. Mr Okwii should know that Ugandans vote for whoever they feel will lead not rule them and that there is no single day when God came from Heaven to tick a ballot.
Instead, I would advise Ugandans to exercise their power that is in their hands diligently to vote for effective leaders that share the vision of the country with the people and also groom others to take charge and not merely be patient until the current ruler leaves.
