Unruly students must be punished

This is to thank the Daily Monitor for exposing Makerere students whose recent strike degenerated into hooliganism and criminal activity in the Thursday 21 edition.

For a long time, the people in Wandegeya, Kikoni and even Nakulabye have been terrorised and lost livelihoods as students wreak havoc under the guise of strikes.

The majority of losses are never compensated by the university. It is high time the public saw these violent strikes for what they are.

It is students with criminal tendencies and academic problems who cause this chaos. These criminals must be punished as the law requires.

Students should devise better means of expressing their grievances.
