Urban policy is long over due

By Leonard Kakinda

I read in the Daily Monitor of June 3, that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is introducing a National Urban Policy which will promote “leviable urban areas that are organised, productive and sustainable”.
Many towns in Uganda have very old buildings, roads are full of potholes, animals like cattle and goats roam freely, people litter garbage which is rarely collected, the drainage system is very poor, etc!

Many town authorities have not bothered to plant trees and flowers along the streets. The lighting system in many of our towns is very poor. So, when such a policy is introduced, I suggest that the stake holders support and implement it in order to make our towns modern and orderly.
