Utoda’s plan to bring buses is visionary

In Summary
However, UTODA has a bigger task of sensitising its members and convincing them to change from the 14-seater commuter taxis to buses.
As one of the stake holders in the public transport industry, I wish to congratulate the new leadership of UTODA for their decision to introduce buses.
It is only a few weeks to the release and implementation of the long awaited report on the public transport policy in the greater Kampala.
And UTODA, which is one the longest serving bodies in the industry, has shown interest and is ready to compete after launching their pilot bus project branded WAKULA ENUME.
UTODA’s idea of joining the system has not only excited many stakeholders, but it is also the only safe landing for the association that seeks to remain relevant in the transport business.
However, UTODA has a bigger task of sensitising its members and convincing them to change from the 14-seater commuter taxis to buses.
Just like Pioneer Easy Bus is facing operational challenges because of the delayed policy, UTODA should be more than ready to face similar challenges.
I appeal to members of the company to put their differences aside and concentrate on rebuilding the association for the good of public transport in the country.
