We must stop the culture of late coming and procrastination
Posted Wednesday, February 27 2013 at 02:00
We always do it at the last moment! Everything! Whether it is packing for travel, reading for exams, registering to vote or as is the case now, registering simcards!
That national obsession fits well in our culture of late-coming! And when we do come late, we want to be served first! We therefore do not like the inconvenience of queuing to be served! When there is a queue, we try to jump it! We pay bribes or drop big names in order to be served first and fast!
It is against that background that you find us crowding at simcard registration centres to do something we were told to do months ago! What have we been waiting for?
Of course the registration agents like the chaos because that is when bribes can be paid!
We are a nation of committed late comers, and so we should not blame our leaders when our salaries come late, when the road repairs are slow or when the fire brigade arrives at the fire scene two days later!
