In Summary

Hopefully, people will make an effort to memorise it, and see the wisdom and beauty in it. Singing the National Anthem gives Ugandans a sense of nationalism, unity and patriotism.

On my way to work, yesterday, I was listening to a radio programme, where the presenters posed a question, “What is the title of the National Anthem of Uganda?” to one of the callers. He assumed it was the first line of the first stanza, ‘Oh Uganda, may God Uphold Thee,’ which is a mistake many people make; it is actually, ‘Oh Uganda, land of beauty.’

Therefore, I support Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, who advised that the National Anthem be included on the list of questions presented during job interviews. He said most people seeking jobs in Uganda cannot sing all the stanzas of the National Anthem.

Hopefully, people will make an effort to memorise it, and see the wisdom and beauty in it. Singing the National Anthem gives Ugandans a sense of nationalism, unity and patriotism.
