LWENGO/ MASAKA. Former Iganga Resident District Commissioner David Bbaale has withdrawn from the race for Lwengo District chairperson seat.
This leaves the incumbent chairperson, Mr George Mutabazi, unopposed.
Also quitting the race is Justine Nameere, a TV presenter and daughter of state minister for Agriculture Vincent Ssempijja. Ms Nameere pulled out of Bukoto East parliamentary seat in favour of the NRM official candidate Abdullah Nkoyoyo.
Both NRM members announced their withdrawal during separate rallies President Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, held in the areas on Wednesday.

Mr Bbaale said he took the decision to enable NRM consolidate its dominance in the district.
“I am a staunch NRM member who loves to strengthen and consolidate my party. Although Mr Mutabazi defeated me in the party primary elections, today I have decided to withdraw my candidature to avoid causing internal conflicts in NRM,” Mr Bbaale told President Museveni amid cheers from party supporters.
‘’I promise to continue doing mobilisation for NRM,” Mr Bbaale added.

Mr Mutabazi and Mr Bbaale were the only contestants for the district chairperson seat.
The move by Mr Bbaale to quit the race came after a meeting with NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba during President Museveni’s campaign trail in Lwengo District this week.
Ms Nameere’s nomination as NRM-leaning independent candidate had been opposed by top NRM leaders in Masaka District.
President Museveni thanked both party members for the “good gesture and being foresighted” and promised to reward them.
