I’m not interested in violence, says FDC’s Besigye

KUMI.

Former Forum for Democratic Change president Kizza Besigye has said the use of violence to ‘oust the dictatorship of President Museveni’ will only keep power in the hands of the violent, yet this is contrary to the tenets which he believes in.
Speaking during marathon rallies in Serere, Ngora, Kumi and Bukedea districts last Saturday, Dr Besigye said his mission is to help people control those in possession of guns, adding that the reason why the elections have kept being rigged time and again is because those in possession of guns have the leverage to do what they want against the majority will.

“As people who own this country, we must do everything to regain our confidence as owners of this country. This is a matter of mind, we must change this mentality,” he said at Kumi Muslim grounds.

Mr Besigye said the level at which Ugandans have been intimidated is worrying because most Opposition people can no longer flash their party signs fearing reprisal by the State.
He added as the regime continues to oppress the people and spend money on weaponry, the road network in the country continues to worsen while the taxpayers continue to wallow in dire poverty as the little they remit to the Treasury is misused .“You go to Karamoja you see people with eyes that are sunken and hopeless,” Dr Besigye said.

He added that because of those selfish excesses in the hands of a few, while the majority are left out without social services, people send their children to school knowing they are not getting education, because the teachers are not motivated.
“At that state we shall never get doctors, engineers like ourselves,” Dr Besigye said,

He added that the government programme, “Prosperity for All” is designed to keep people in poverty, saying being in groups in order to benefit from your taxes instead makes people poorer.
