Presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi, has put off his campaigns for four days to visit his wife who is admitted to a London hospital.

Immediately after attending the papal Mass at Namugongo last Saturday, Mr Mbabazi flew to London to check on the progress of his wife’s health and to weigh options of bringing her back to Uganda in case she is feeling better.

This is the second time Mr Mbabazi is putting aside his political plans, the first being last month, two weeks before nomination, when he escorted his wife to hospital.
Mr Mbabazi announced the postponement on his official Facebook page saying:

“Dear friends, I would like to inform you that we will have a slight postponement of the next leg of our campaign tours. This is as a result of my travel to visit my wife and her anticipated return this week.”

Ms Jacquline Mbabazi was taken to a London hospital two weeks to nominations. There has not been any official communication about what she was suffering from.

Mr Mbabazi was to start the second leg of his campaigns yesterday in Pallisa District and later travel to Luuka, Iganga and Kamuli before going to Wakiso and heading back to the west.
The coordinator of the journalists covering Mr Mbabazi’s campaign, Ms Maggie Lukowe, said: “He is away for four days only”. This means Mr Mbabazi will be back on the trail on Thursday. Other candidates who have postponed their campaigns are Prof Venansius Baryamureeba and Ms Maureen Kyalya.

Mr Mbabazi has told his campaign and media teams that when he returns, he will run a ‘marathon’ campaign starting with Pallisa District. He also said he intends to campaign in every county. He has 79 days to do that.
