NRM apologises to Amama Mbabazi

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Ms Justine Lumumba has apologised to independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi for disrupting his campaign rally in Fort Portal, Kabarole District recently.
Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde landed an NRM chopper in Kabarole at the same venue where Mr Mbabazi had planned to hold his rally, and later on also booked into the same hotel where Mr Mbabazi was staying.
However, Ms Lumumba says they were not aware that Mr Mbabazi had planned to hold his rally at the same venue.
“I am sorry if Mr Mbabazi was hurt. We did not know that Hon. Mbabazi had booked the venue for his rally,” she said while unveiling the party presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni’s campaign task force at the party headquarters in Kampala.
Following the Kabarole incident, Lumumba’s deputy Richard Todwong told a press gathering in Gulu that NRM has no time to plan to disorganize Mr Mbabazi rally and instead Mr Mbabazi and his Go Forward are just disorganized and disoriented.
“Why should Museveni disorganize and already disorganized man?” he wondered. “The Tumukunde chopper incident was looking for where to land.”
Mbabazi’s team has on several occasions complained of being provoked by the NRM supporters who they say have also been defacing Mr Mbabazi’s campaign posters.
When asked early today how he intends to deal with NRM supporters disrupting his rallies, Mr Mbabazi said he’s yet to come up with appropriate measures to counter any disturbances.
“We shall announce on Friday the new measures we intend to take on some of the activities against us. The campaigns are about selling our ideas to the people and everyone must have a chance to do that freely,” he said.
