A group of youth has started soliciting money to facilitate President Museveni’s campaigns for the forthcoming 2016 elections.

The group code-named ‘National Resistance Movement (NRM) High Command’ comprising self-employed youth also opened their office in Makerere-Kagugube in Kampala as a base for their support.

At the function where they hosted several candidates who are standing to contest in NRM primaries, the group donned in yellow T-shirts bearing President Museveni portrait, collected more than Shs30 million in cash.

Mr Ibrahim Sewanyana, the leader of the group, said the move was a strategy to appreciate the party for its good policies.
“In the interest of the party, we have committed ourselves to raise funds and building solidarity,” Mr Sewanyana said last week.

The group patron, Mr Moses Katantu, said the fundraising drive is manifestation of the love for President Museveni.
He warned the youth against abandoning work for campaigns.

“Our struggle is to fight for human dignity and even if we decide to escort Mr Museveni, everyone’s work must continue because the NRM party relies on people for resources.”
The Lwengo District party chairperson, Mr Muyanja Mbabaali, said the party needs human resource that is dedicated and committed.

“NRM as an organisation does not do business. We only rely on volunteers who are ready to commit time and financial resources,” Mr Mbabaali said.

Kampala Central Division MP Muhammad Nsereko commended the youth initiative. “It does not mean that if you are supporting a given party, you should not see its mistakes. It is through dialogue that any issues arising can be resolved,” Mr Nsereko who revealed that he would stand as an independent, said.
