Former External Security Organisation (ESO) director general David Pulkol has said presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi is a peaceful person and urged voters to elect him in order to consolidate the peace in the country and in the region.

Speaking in Kanungu, Mr Mbabazi’s home district on Thursday, Mr Pulkol said Mr Mbabazi, who headed the Defence and Security ministries and as prime minister, was instrumental in the pacification of Karamoja, which he said “was an appendix of Uganda.”

Mr Pulkol credited Mr Mbabazi for contributing to ending the war in the neigbouring DR Congo.
“He has been a negotiator for peace. He participated in the (making) of Lusaka Peace Accord. He is a peacemaker, that is why the war in DR Congo could not spill over to Kigezi,” said Mr Pulkol, dressed in the traditional Karimojong attire.

The Lusaka ceasefire agreement, signed on July 10, 1999, between the heads of state of Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda, Namibia, Angola and DR Congo, sought to end the war in the DRC, which finally ceased.

“For us in Karamoja, we have decided to go with Mr Mbabazi because of what he has done for us and the country,” Mr Pulkol told the crowds.

Kween County MP Chemaswet Kisos urged the people of Kanungu to vote Mr Mbabazi so that he can fix the bad roads in their area and enable the community access opportunities in Kampala.
Mr Mbabazi said he has been party to everything NRM has achieved since 1986. He added that he can do better once elected president.
“All executive power is vested in the President,” he said.
