Uganda Cranes striker Caeaser Okhuti scored his first goal of the season as Bunnamwaya reclaimed the leadership of the National Super League with a convincing 3-1 victory over Arua Central at Nakivubo stadium yesterday.
Defending champions URA lost 1-0 on their visit to relegation-threatened Simba. Okhuti, sidelined due to a spate of groin and hamstring injuries this season, struck two minutes from time.
“I am very grateful to be back because it was very hard to cope (after a lengthy absence),” Okhuti, who knelt down in celebration to thank the Almighty Lord, told Daily Monitor after the game.
Bunnamwaya are level with Express at the summit with 21 points after nine games as the former remain the only unbeaten side in the league.
Tony Odur’s second minute goal seemed to have opened the floodgates but coach Haruna Mawa’s side hit back through Gift Ali nine minutes later. An offside flag denied Okhuti prior to break despite the bottom side dominating exchanges.
On resumption, midfielder Boban Zirintunsa restored Bunnamwaya’s advantage with a perfect curling shot past goal-keeper Sijali Sasi in the 69th minute.
Okhuti then scored from a rebound after his shot struck both posts before getting back into play. Arua are bottom with four points.
In Bombo, URA were left stuck in fourth, four points behind the leaders after Godfrey Wakaza’s goal condemned the champions to their second defeat. Coach Moses Basena will demand a quick recovery against Fire Masters tomorrow.
