Faced with the danger of ejection from the National Super League, Express are not losing sleep, according to the club general secretary Kavuma Kabenge.
In a letter dated December 21, signed by Fufa CEO Edgar Watson Suubi, the football supreme body gave the Wankulukuku-based side a December 31 ultimatum to withdraw their suit against the soccer governing body.
“Fufa Ltd doesn’t have the mandate to invoke any disciplinary measures; Express is not its member. These are preserved for the Super League Committee, if any rule is violated,” Kabenge explained.
Fufa threats
Fufa have threatened to expel Express if they do not withdraw a suit challenging the legality of Fufa.
Through Muwema & Mugerwa Advocates, Express state that; “Fufa is not properly and legally constituted under the National Council of Sports (NCS) Act.”
This implies that Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa, CEO Watson and returning officer Patrick Okanya don’t vest any legal authority of office. Express is also seeking orders compelling the three men to account for Shs2.8 billion received from a catalogue of sponsors over the past four years.
Fufa received money from GTV and MTN in sponsorship for the Super League and national teams respectively.
Grants from Fifa and Caf are also under the spotlight.
“If there is no substance in that court case, why does Fufa Ltd want Express to withdraw the suit?” Kabenge queried.
“We (Express) can only withdraw only if the concerns in the suit are met.”
