National cricket coach Mohammed Ebrahim Barney is determined to groom not only talented cricketers but a disciplined outfit as he prepares his charges for the ICC Intercontinental Shield match against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai next year.

Uganda, currently leaders of the inaugural four-nation tournament with 20 points after their shock seven- wicket win over Bermuda, will travel to Dubai on January 15 for one four-day game and a series of One Day Internationals (ODIs).

And Barney, in a bid to keep his charges focused, has set tight rules for the charges under his tutelage ahead of the epic tie that will not only test his side’s skills but also mettle. “The coach (Barney) told us to report for training January 4 prompt.

He wasn’t overly happy with the way we played in Nairobi. We won the Twenty20 matches and lost all the three ODIs (50-over game). A strict disciplinary measure awaits anyone who fails to turn up without a worthy excuse. He is determined to take us to another level,” vice-captain Davis Arinaitwe told Daily Monitor. Debutantes Ivan Thawi, Henry Ssenyondo, Arthur Ziraba and Deus Muhumuza will give the core stars a run for berths on the Dubai-bound squad.
