15 varsities to compete in Mbarara

At least 15 universities have confirmed participation in the Eastern Africa University Cross-country Championships due this Saturday.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Must) are hosting the one-day event facilitated by the National University Sports Federation of Uganda (Nusfu) and the East Africa University Sports Federation.
According to Must public relations officer Doreen Akello, participants are expected from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Eritrea and among others.

Makerere, Kyambogo, Kampala International University (KIU), Nkumba, Uganda Christian University, Ndejje, Kampala University, Busitema, Gulu, Lugazi, Islamic and the hosts will carry Uganda’s flag. The event, to be held at Mbarara Golf Course, is also supported by the Union of Africa University Sports Federation.
Charles Tumwesigye, the Must sports tutor, said the course will be a 2-km grass circuit. Men will compete over 12km (six laps) while women are to run 8km (four laps). The top three teams and individuals will receive medals as well as trophies.
State minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi is expected to grace the function as chief guest.
Teams start arriving in the country on Thursday.
