ENTEBBE. Davis Kamoga is one of Uganda’s least recognised athletics medallists.

The retired sprinter won 400m bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics before claiming a silver behind American Michael Johnson at the 1997 World Championships in Athens, Greece.

The norm today is medalists meet President Yoweri Museveni upon return from overseas.
But Kamoga, first met Museveni last year at the World Cross-country Championships in Kololo, 20 years after Athens.

“He (Museveni) got me in touch with his PS Molly Kamukama and I did what I was requested to do but nothing came through,” Kamoga narrates.

Kamoga, who turns 50 on July 17, wrote a letter with requests to the President but by the time he met him in Jinja early this year, his issues were not addressed.

Yesterday, Kamoga met President Museveni for the third time as he hosted the returning team from the Commonwealth Games at State House Entebbe.

After the five medalists presented their silverware, Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama allowed Kamoga a moment with Museveni. “For the Olympic medal I won, it clears weighs more than other Commonwealth or All-Africa medals.

And the President built a house for Dorcus Inzikuru, bought a car and built a house for Kipsiro (Moses) as well as Stephen Kiprotich,” explained Kamoga.

“I may not have won gold but I addressed those issues to him so I hope this time I am considered,” Kamoga added.
