Kampala. The need to create a healthy environment in East Africa is the reason behind Buganda Kingdom showing their support towards the May 31 Afrika Mashariki Fest Half Marathon.
“The theme of this integration run; ‘Healthy Citizens for Regional Integration with a Cause to Support the Lake Victoria Environmental Conservation Projects’ is timely given a wide range of current global environmental issues many of which are unattended to,” Minister for Youth, Sports and Recreation Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu wrote to the project director Ronex Kisembo.

Two races
Kiberu pledged to inform all Buganda organs about the marathon and ensure they attend. He promised to reinforce the message when the Kabaka of Buganda officiates at the Local Government Day in Mukono on May 30, a day prior to the marathon.
Participants will compete in the 21km (men only) and 10km at Kololo Airstrip. Activities to climax the event will include a display of paintings by the youth under the theme “The East Africa I would like to live in.”
The winning piece will attract a cash prize of Shs1m and will be displayed in the East Africa Legislation Assembly (EALA) Parliament and other Parliaments of partner states.
The Shs10,000 registration for the two races is ongoing at all Nakumatt, Capital Shoppers and Shoprite branches, New City Supermarket on Ham Shopping Centre in Nakivubo and Airtel outlets.
