Coach tips Aneno to make World Champs grade

Fame Club runner runs Olympic semifinalist Zakary close.
Fame Athletics Club coach James William Mugeni expects his sprinter Agnes Aneno to step up gear and qualify for the World Championships due August in Moscow, Russia.
Aneno showed she can beat top athletes after finishing second to Kenya’s London Olympics semifinalist Joyce Zakary in Mumias at the weekend.
Competing at the sixth Athletics Kenya/National Bank weekend meeting, Aneno posted 56.6 to finish second with Zakary snatching victory in 56.4 (manual timing) on a wet surface.
“She ran well. It was hard for the officials to tell who had won between her and Zakary,” Mugeni said of Aneno. “This is a race where I strongly believe lack of technology denied us victory on a very soggy ground.”
With the World Championships qualifying standard at 51.55 (Group A) and 52.35 (Group B), Aneno still has some work to do.
“I have belief she can make the B standard,” Mugeni said.
