Engaging in sports will help reduce cattle rustling in the area, according to the star runner.
National runner Moses Kipsiro has called on the Karimojong pastoralists community to embrace sports activities and stop engaging in cattle rustling.
“Sports will help the people of Karamoja transform their society,” Kipsiro said after a race organised by Moroto District to promote children rights.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games double gold medallist (5,000m and 10,000m), also called on government to take sports seriously.
“We cannot compete against Kenya and Ethiopia in our current situation. The government must do more to promote sports,” Kipsiro, one of very few runners that can openly fight for the improvement of the sports sector, added.
He noted that since Stephen Kiprotich won marathon gold at the Olympics, Kenyans had started treating Ugandan runners harshly. “It is now difficult for a Ugandan athlete to go and train in Kenya. The Kenyans no longer like us.” Kiprotich trained in Kenya.
