Stephen Kiprotich will rest his running shoes and take to partying this weekend.

The runner, who has been training in Kenya, will tonight be crowned athlete of the year barring an upset of big proportions.

The 2012 London Olympics marathon champion is contesting for the award with Africa triple jump champion Sarah Nambawa and steeplechaser Benjamin Kiplagat.

But it will be the biggest shock in the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF)-organised gala if any of the two pips the road king to the accolade.

After tonight’s party at Serena Hotel, the 23-year-old hero will have little time to rest as he returns to the limelight at the Nile Special-Uspa awards night due tomorrow at Imperial Royale Hotel.
