The build-up to the third Rotary Uganda Cancer Run due August 31 is gathering pace. After Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, confirmed his participation as the chief runner, now Mukwano Group of Companies has boosted the campaign with 24,000 bottles of Aqua Sipi Mineral Water.
The campaign, the third of its kind since 2012, seeks to raise Shs300m meant for the completion of the Cancer Centre at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital. Tony Gadhoke, CEO Mukwano Group of Companies gave the donation to Rotary Uganda during a press briefing at the company’s head office yesterday.
“Mukwano is always happy to lend a friendly hand in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives most especially in the area of health and environment,” Gandhoke told the press.
“On behalf of the company, I would like to commend Rotary Uganda for taking the initiative to build a Cancer Centre. We are glad to have been given an opportunity to contribute to this noble cause”.
About 15,000 participants are expected to grace the run in three categories, namely: 5km, 10km and 21km and the top three runners will win prizes, also courtesy of Mukwano.
The company has backed several health-related causes like: the blood donation campaign, the Kabaka’s Birthday Run—in support of Fistula victims—the CHAIN Hand Washing Campaign, Postnatal care sensitization at Nsambya Hospital, supporting Ebola victims and donating to the Cervical Cancer Unit.
Steven Kiprotich, the Aqua Sipi brand ambassador is usually the chief runner but will miss this edition due to his tight training schedule. The charity run will be flagged off at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
