Okao shines at Northern Marathon
In Summary
The organisers Global Health Network were targeting Shs87m to help facilitate Gulu Hospital with household necessities.
St Joseph’s College Layibi’s Daniel Okao and sprinter Patrick Okema carried the day as the third edition of the Northern Uganda Marathon took place in Gulu town on Sunday.
Okao, a senior four student, was home in 40 minutes beating the closest challenger Okema (1hour, 14 minutes) by 34 minutes to take the 10km gong.
“I was on my own,” said the dominant Okao. “There was no serious competition for me in the field. I hope this win can help me improve my long distance career.”
Okema, who ran with an injury, was not satisfied with the level of competition.
At least 300 runners from the region and mostly drawn from the corporate world responded to the marathon organised by Global Health Network under the theme: ‘Save a mother and you have saved a nation’.
