The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has been preaching about the basics of the game and they will be a pleased lot after the ongoing seminar that winds up today at Namboole Stadium Hotel.

The seminar has brought together Primary Teachers Colleges (PTCs) for the last three days to teach them the fundamentals of athletics.

The workshop has primarily focused on the concept of young athletes with an emphasis of introducing skills like of jumping, running and throwing in schools. “We want to produce great athletes with great skills,” said the Sports Development Expert, Gunter Lange, also the person in-charge of the training.

“We have too many senior athletes who lack quality skills thus we want to improve it (quality) right from the primary schools’ level. The senior teachers were also taught how to improve the skills of the upcoming junior athletes with regards to better tactical and technical approaches to the respective disciplines.

Over 17 senior PTCs from Kampala gathered for the three-day. “In each of the 23,500 schools, we are targeting to get one teacher who will be able to impart with proper skills,” Lange added.
