KAMPALA

Nason Bwesigye was on Tuesday unveiled as the coach of the national men’s volleyball team with an immediate task of guiding them to the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

Bwesigye is replacing Anthony Ndawula, who brought his 28-year coaching career to an end last month because he is relocating to United States of America. “It’s a tough challenge ahead but I will give my best with the coaching staff and see how far we can go,” Bwesigye told a news conference organised at Lugogo by Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF).

“Am stepping into Anthony Ndawula’s shoes and I accept those are very huge shoes for me,” Bwesigye added. “His track record as a coach is so rich but I want to thank the federation for entrusting me with this task, I will try to give it my best.”

Apart from the All Africa Games Zonal Volleyball qualifiers next April, Bwesigye’s other assignments are the Africa Nations Championships in May and the Olympic qualifiers in 2016.

Bwesigye, who handles UCU Doves in the league, will be deputised by Hannington Nsubuga. UVF technical director Tony Lakony said Bwesigye will be judged by the team’s performance in the All Africa Games qualifiers.
