Kampala. As reigning basketball champions City Oilers defeated Sharing Youth 75-44 on Wednesday night, there were unfamiliar spectators in the stands, the reigning Azam Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC.
The Lugogo-based side wasn’t only watching basketball; they were cheering the three-time champions in a move that is a start of new partnership between the two sports teams.
Many of the KCCA players including officials confessed to have been at a basketball game for the first time.

And that was evident when right back Denis Rukundo was over heard asking who Ben Komakech was before getting a shock of his life.
“All along I thought ‘Koma’ was some huge guy,” he said. “But he is playing well and shoots with ease, he must be one of their best players,” Rukundo noted further about the two-time MVP who contributed a season-high 12 points on the night.
At half time, the players and officials, led by manager Mike Mutebi, took to the charity line for a free throw session and like expected ,they weren’t as good as they are on the football pitch.

It was fanfare at the end of the game as the players and coaches joined the Oilers for a meet and greet as they posed for the cameras.
The City Oilers have in turn been invited for KCCA’s next home game against Express next Tuesday, an invitation they accepted without hesitation.
