Falcons out of time to save season

KAMPALA.

StarTimes Falcons remain confident they will reach this season’s playoffs. But as the 12-team log suggests, the men’s league record champions are running out of time to achieve that target in what has been a largely forgettable season thus far.

They play Ndejje University Angels this evening at YMCA needing victory to keep in touch with not only their opponents but the other teams around them.

With six games left, the six-time champions, it appears, have to contend with Sharing Youth and UPDF for the eighth and final playoff position. Ndejje currently occupy seventh position with a 6-9 record just ahead of Sharing and UPDF.

The Walker Obedi-coached Ndejje have, however, blown hot and cold which offers a glimmer of hope to Falcons. They have picked two wins and the same number of losses in their four second round games that included a 61-38 thrashing by UCU Canons.

Falcons though have not been too impressive either with the 80-67 win over Our Saviour followed up by losses to Pemba Warriors and Sunday’s 45-64 defeat to champions City Oilers. The latter are also back in action this evening with a game against a UPDF Tomahawks team on a high following Sunday’s 73-68 win over Warriors.

Oilers will be looking to build another run as they gear up for the Zone V Championships next month having bounced back from defeat to KIU with the win over Falcons.

At the Fiba Africa U18 Women’s Championship, Uganda earned a place in the final eight of the competition after Ivory Coast pulled out of the competition to leave the event with eight participating teams. Uganda had earlier been thrashed 143-19 by Mali.
