KAMPALA. The KCCA men side is one of the better facilitated teams in the National Basketball League (NBL).

Backed by the authority, the Roger Sserunyigo-coached side made a number of seasoned additions including Innocent Odour, Andrew Gang and Francis Mbuyi in preparation for their maiden topflight league appearance. As such it is a surprise to many that that they currently find themselves bottom of the log as the first round draws to a close this week.

They go into today’s game with a 2-8 record and can leapfrog UPDF (2-9) with a win against Pemba Warriors. The two-time league champions, meanwhile, have a 6-4 record and will go fourth in the standings with victory. They defeated Sharing Youth 71-65 but lost 51-36 to Our Saviour in their last two games. The latter result was achieved despite the absence of two of their best players with guard Syrus Kiviiri (pic inset) and Stanley Mugerwa away on national team duty.

In the ladies category, it has also been a slow start for former champions KCCA Leopards who will be looking to improve a 4-2 start when they play newcomers Angels. The latter sit seventh on the 10-team log with a 2-6 record thus far.
