KAMPALA. Ugandan basketball, it can be said is at its highest point on the international scene in the game’s more than 40-year history.
This followed the participation, never mind the results, of both the men and women’s national teams at the Afro-Basket Championships last year.
Ladies club side KCCA Leopards also featured at the same level with City Oilers narrowly missing out after losing the zonal final to Egyptian side Gezira.

On Saturday, the national Under-18 boys’ and girls’ sides will be seeking to maintain that momentum when they host the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Zone V qualifiers.
With other zonal countries not taking part, Kenya stands in the way of both Ugandan teams with the winner qualifying for the continental championship due July 22-31 in Kigali, Rwanda.
“Anything can happen in such situations because it is like a one off game” coach Nicholas Natuhereza who is overseeing both teams responded about the teams’ chances of progression.
He has however not had the ideal preparation going into the competition with both teams only gathering on Tuesday.
“It has been difficult getting these players from their schools but we can bank on the on the one week sessions we had during the February and May school holidays.”
