NBL playoffs: Power book JKL

Kampala- Ndejje University have been regular participants in the playoffs since the format was changed from four to eight teams in 2012.

They have however never progressed after the first round a trend they had hoped to correct after looking on course for a more favourable seeding as the regular season came to a close.

Instead, a two-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player ensured they only managed to just make the playoffs as eighth seeds hence drawing the top seeded Betway Power.

And while they pushed the five-time champions at times, they were unable to break their playoff jinx as they were eventually brushed aside 2-0 in the best -of-three quarterfinal playoff series.

After failing to overcome Power’s full court press as they succumbed to a 73-41 game one loss, the Walker Obedi coached side showed more fight in the second before going down 84-77 late on Sunday evening.

A Martin Buluma jumper had them trail by only two with 30 seconds left before Salim Kisily was sent to the charity line as they trailed by three with 19 seconds on the clock.

He missed both free-throws for Power to set up a semifinal date with JKL who also overcame Pemba Warriors 2-0 earlier on Sunday.

Power forward Geoffrey Soro played a pivotal role for Power averaging 16 points in the two games and 20 on Sunday against his former side while Buluma dropped 21 points and Innocent Ochera added 17 in a decent effort for Ndejje.
