Nkumba suffer Power backlash as UCU ends first round on a high

KAMPALA. Betway Power coach Arnold Lando sought a reaction from his players after the 87-75 surprise loss to UPDF last weekend by warning there would be serious consequences would they put in more below-par performances.
This is after the result reawakened the theory that they are at their most vulnerable playing on a Sunday afternoon because of their off-court lifestyle.

They responded with the most emphatic performance of the weekend by blowing out Nkumba Marines 81-49 at Lugogo on Sunday afternoon. They made their intent clear by winning the opening 20-8 and unlike against UPDF the previous weekend, also finished strongly in the final period that they clinched 25-15 for their seventh victory in nine games.
Joseph Ikong led from the front for Power scoring seven points in the opening quarter to finish with a game-high 22 while Michael Makiadi added 10 and 12 rebounds and Nasser Guddi 11.
Nkumba Marines meanwhile slumped to 2-8 despite Malvin Ndaye’s 19 points.

UCU Canons ended the first round with an 8-3 record following a 69-60 win over Our Saviour.
They required a 28-16 fourth quarter run to inflict a seventh loss in 10 games for Our Saviour with Joas Maheta, Jonathan Egau and Fadhili Chuma scoring 15, 13 and 10 points respectively.
There was also a third straight victory for champions City Oilers who recorded a straightforward 77-49 win over struggling Falcons with Landry Ndikumana and Stephen Omony scoring 14 and 13 points respectively.
