Oilers face Pemba Warriors

KAMPALA. Backed by arguably the best roster and with a 14-2 record thus far, Pemba Warriors continue to be considered as City Oilers’ biggest challengers to this year’s National Basketball League title.
The Oilers however won the first round meeting between the two teams 72-62 to suggest they are still the team to beat in the top division and perhaps favourites for a never-done-before four-peat.
Their second round meeting today consequently offers another opportunity to gauge the pair’s strength especially with the post season playoffs on the horizon.
Oilers come into the game on the back of retaining the Zone V Championship and easily dispatched Ndejje University 92-50 in their previous game on October 09.
Warriors also defeated the same team 74-61 four days later but suffered an 80-69 defeat to KIU Titans in their other defeat this season.
With Stanley Mugerwa, Phillip Ameny and Saidi Amisi, Pemba Warriors appear to have the better frontcourt but like the first round showed, Oilers’ Burundian star Landry Ndikumana and James Okello know when to step up.
Warriors forward Mike Buzangu appears to have slowed down after a brilliant first round but is averaging 18.6 points.
Oilers, who have rarely been stretched in the regular season, have not had a standout player and will be keen to improve on their 11-4 record ahead of a busy schedule that will include the Fiba Africa Club Championship.
On Wednesday, Fadhili Chuma scored 15 points and picked 11 rebounds as UCU Canons inflicted a second straight defeat on Betway Power.
The win improved the Mukono University side to 13-8 while Power who had Michael Makiadi notch a team high 15 slumped to a 14-6 record with two regular season games left.
