Kenya is the scalp Ugandan basketball so desperately needs. Beating is what everyone within TeamUg wants to do regularly.
Now, the national basketball team is making steps towards that goal. On Friday in Zanzibar, TeamUg swept aside the neighbours 63-36 to make it two wins in two games at the annual Mapinduzi Cup.
It will hardly matter to TeamUg that this wasn’t the strongest as they have now sent a strong message to one of the major contenders for the Fiba Africa Zone Nations Championships later this year.
TeamUg also beat Tanzania 60-40 on Thursday evening in what team official Silver Rugambwa termed as “a scrappy game” as the four-nation tournament tipped off.
Stephen Omony led the team with 12 points and Swedish-based Kassim Nagwere contributed 11 as Uganda won with a 20-point margin against Tanzania.
The physicality of the Kenyans is something coach Mandy Juruni must have loved relating to as the Zone V event will offer a lot of the same.
