The National Cadet Boxing Championships kicks off on Tuesday at MTN Arena Lugogo and more than thirty boxing clubs have confirmed participation according to Mr Fred Kavuma, the spokesperson Uganda Boxing Federation.

The one week event is intended to identify talent.

“We need more talent. This event is meant for young boxers to get exposed and develop their talent,” Mr Kavuma said.

Unlike previous years where organisers have been weighed down with buying utilities like trophies and medals, this year’s event has attracted sponsors like Hima Cement and Sun Industries who have availed various utilities to the boxers and also pledged to fund the event where possible.

Last year’s Cadets Championships saw Sparks, an upcoming boxing club emerge winners in the Junior Category while Lukanga Boxing Club won both the youth and elite categories.
