Bogere regains IBO ranking status

Boston, Massachusetts. When Sharif ‘The Lion’ Bogere was a rookie back in the days, he found it to be a jarring change after fighting professionally in USA.
So, he constantly reached out to fellow boxers and coaches at his former and childhood club, Kampala Boxing Club for guidance.
Bogere, 29, is now in his ninth year in the USA and has established himself as one of the elites not only in Mayweather Promotions stable, but also the lightweight division. His establishment suffered a little setback though in the previous year as he was nursing a career threatening injury. This led to his Boxrec account to become inactive as well as losing his ranking status in all major boxing sanctioning bodies.
Well, Bogere, who returned to the ring with a stunning display over Jose Loius Rodriguez last month, has got his name back into the lightweight division ranks.

The International Boxing Organisation (IBO) latest rankings, have the former Bombers captain in position 33 out of the top 100 in the lightweight category for this month.
“This is a great achievement,” Bogere said. “As you know my account on Boxrec was inactive, but following my recent fight, its back into active mode. And now this news about me getting back into the ranks, makes its a fresh and great start for my return.”

Bogere, who before the injury was ranked among top five by the same body in the same division, targets a return into prime positions next year. “My target is to win a world title next year,” Bogere said. “My ranking has to improve in order for me to be among the contenders. If I win my next tune up fight, it will help me to get into the prime spots.”
Bogere claimed a unanimous decision over Raymundo Beltran in 2011 to be declared the North America Boxing Organisation (NABO) lightweight champion but the latter is currently ranked number four by the IBO. Beltran is now preparing for a world title fight next year.

All three judges, Patricia Morse Jarman (97-93), Lisa Giampa (96-94) and Jerry Roth (96-94) ruled in favour of Bogere. It was Bogere’s first bout to go beyond eight rounds and his first professional title win.
“Beltran has been active while I was away treating my injury. I have now healed and ready to take on whoever comes my way,” said Bogere in response to the above comparison.

Career highlight. Through connections in the boxing industry, Bogere and his trainer set up a meeting with Leonard Ellerbe and the legendary Floyd Mayweather. After witnessing his potential, Bogere was immediately signed to Mayweather Promotions in March 2016. Since signing with Mayweather Promotions Bogere has stopped every opponent he has been up against. With a current 6-win streak, Bogere will head into his next bout, which he hopes will bring him one step closer to a title.
