Uganda’s ‘Lion’ Bogere to fight Colombian boxer Florez in non-title bout

Boston.

When he recently acquired the services of Nevada Hall of Fame trainer Thell Torrence, boxer Sharif “The Lion” Bogere said, “ I am very happy to have Torrence join me. He is a great guy with lots of experience. I have no doubt we are going to rock the world.”

In the case of tonight’s fight, Bogere added, “Torrence has given me lots of helpful tips since joining me two months ago. He has also changed my fighting style. He wants me to box and move out.”

“I have also worked on my speed as well as strength in my punch. I will be glad to deploy all these in my fight on Friday night.”

Bogere, 28-1-0 also a resident of Las Vegas, takes on Colombian native Luis Edwards Florez in a 10 round non title super lightweight bout at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, Las Vegas USA tonight.

“ We are looking at tonight’s fight as his last tune up before he challenges for a title. We are holding talks and hopefully we shall come to terms soon so that Bogere can fight for a title either by the end of this or early next year,” Bogere’s manager Jimmy Alex said.

Future champion

Trainer Torrence who has had success with heavyweight boxers like RIddick Bowe says Bogere is a champion in the making.

“Bogere is such a talent, a hard worker and disciplined boxer. I am starting to understand him now. We have been working on speed and strength as well as his movement in the ring,” said Torrence. Bogere has done huge remodelling in his camp; joining Mayweather Promotions in March after his contract expired with Golden Boys.

His most recent change coming two months ago when he parted ways with long time trainer Kenny Adams.

There’s a lot at stake for tonight’s fight despite being a tune up.

It will be the first time Bogere fights without Adams who has been his trainer since 2008 when he started professional boxing.

It is also his second fight under the Mayweather Promotions brand and his first with new trainer Torrence.

Bogere who last fought and registered victory in April over Samuel Amoako, is enjoying a good run with just one defeat to Richard Abril that came in 2013.

His opponent tonight, is a vastly experienced boxer as well, with a good record of 21-4-0.

Florez has however lost his two most previous fights.
Bogere is arguably Uganda’s best professional boxer today.
