KAMPALA. Three boxers of the national boxing team have been flagged off at Lugogo for the World Boxing Championship in Hamburg, Germany.

Welterweight Muzamir Kakande, bantamweight Geoffrey Kaketo and super heavy David Ayiti and head coach Patrick Lihanda will travel on Monday for the tournament that begins on August 25.

The three qualified for the tournament after making the semis of the African Confederation Boxing Championship in Brazzaville, Congo in June. Kakande, the presiding captain, won gold while his teammates settled for silver.

In the Doha 2015 edition of the World Championship, three Ugandans did not win medals. Uganda last won medals in the inaugural event in 1974 in Havana, Cuba.
