KCB SEVENS RESULTS
Buffaloes 17-05 Pirates
Heathens 15-10 Rhinos
Mongers 32-00 UCU
2014 league champions DMark Kobs found themselves on the wrong side of the law once again after being disqualified during the final circuit of the KCB sevens at Legends Rugby Ground.
The Legends-based side was barred from continuing at the quarterfinal stage after using ineligible players. Their exclusion granted Jinja Hippos a place in the semifinals. “They fielded players who had not been registered for the tournament and we had no option but to halt their participation,” said a union official.
Behind the gloom of Kobs’ disqualification lay some glamour on Toyota Buffaloes’ side as they emerged overall winners after four circuits.
Buffaloes pipped Heathens to the title with both sides winning two circuits apiece. Buffaloes wrapped up the series in style with a resounding 17-05 win over Pirates who had earlier shown glimpses of brilliance with fly half Ivan Magomu pulling the strings together for them.
Surprise package Jinja Hippos continued to show why they are highly rated by going all the way to the main cup semifinals where they fell 12-0 to champions Buffaloes. Hippos finished third on the overall table with powerhouses like Kobs, Pirates, and Rhinos all trailing them.
