KAMPALA- Former super bantamweight champion Edward ‘Messiah’ Kakembo has vowed to give his fans the best possible show against opponent Ben Sajjabi as the two battle for the National Featherweight title at Calendar Hotel, Makindye, tomorrow night.
This marks the first phase of ‘Ekikonde Butereevu ku Lwomukaaga’ (Saturday Boxing Live), a new boxing arrangement by Scheme Uganda, which was unveiled recently at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.

“It is a year-and-a-half since I last won a title,” Kakembo told Daily Monitor this week “I know my fans must be hungry enough to see the best of me. Go tell them to turn up in big numbers and I, as usual, will serve them the best.”

Kakembo’s last title bout was a unanimous decision victory over arch-rival Raymond Ssentongo as he won the National Super Bantamweight belt at MTN Arena-Lugogo February 28, last year. A rematch was a high possibility but Ssentongo hang his gloves recently.

“Since Ssentongo retired I see no serious opposition in the super bantam category. Now I want to conquer and settle in the featherweight territory and I will start by chaining Sajjabi and taking that title,” Kakembo, sometimes called Ow’enjegere for his trademark ring entrance with chains all over his chest ,said.

The soft-spoken Sajjabi, on his part, said he will do much of the talking in the ring. “I will not say much but rest assured that after the last bell Sajjabi will be a new champion.”

Kakembo turned professional on April 21, 2013 and has won all his seven bouts (three by knockout) while Sajjabi’s pro career reads two victories; three losses (twice knocked out) and two draws since July 26, 2009.
