In Summary

Boxing. Ugandan heavyweight Odeke takes on Tanzania’s Suleiman Ashraf at Lugogo on Friday.

Kenyan umpire Francis Olando will be in charge as Ugandan Kenneth ‘Bad News’ Odeke fights Tanzanian Suleiman Ashraf at Lugogo on Friday.
Olando has been an international referee with a World Boxing Organization (WBO) badge for the past five years.

Last year, he was in the centre as Ugandans Robert Kamya lost to countrymate Charles Kakande.
Uganda Boxing Union (UBU), organisers of the Friday Liberation fights, have also brought in Tanzanian referee Emmanuel Mlundwa, 56, to officiate Kamya’s bout against Kenyan Mark Oliech.
Mlundwa, who has been in the job since 1990, holds instructor’s badges from WBO and the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
Having foreign referees is aimed at ensuring impartiality, according to UBU. “We (UBU) are not taking any chances,” said UBU promoter Emmanuel Mwesigwa.
