Kampala.

The World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) intercontinental welterweight title fight between Ugandan Umar Semata and Austrailian Piotr Lagodzki was postponed by a day following a heavy downpour in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
What started as a good evening for the organisers Pemba Sports and Lash Media ended on a miserable note as a only three of five fights that were lined up took place at Hotel Africana.

The Semata fight and the non-title contest between Samir Sakhi (Morocco) and Ngedo Gomba (Thailand) were re-scheduled for last night at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

On Friday evening, everything had started well with a number of revelers flocking the venue as early as 7pm. The kickboxing lovers were welcomed with performances from artistes like Bakri, Irene Ntale, Papa Cidy, and Shebaah, among others. The artistes, however, ate up on the time meant for the fights.

In one of the fights that were successfully concluded, UPDF’s John ‘AK47’ Tumukunde knocked out Kenya’s Levis Michael in the sixth round. The Kenyan got complications with his genitals after a kick from Tumukunde and was later rushed to hospital.
Shortly after 1am, former two-time former WBO champion Tineyi Maridzo from Zimbabwe grudgingly stepped into the ring to face Ugandan David Basajjamivule in a 12-round. The final two rounds were, however, disrupted by rain but the Ugandan negotiated his way to victory. With the canvas now wet, the orgainsers had to cancel the main fight.
