KAMPALA.

Former national heavyweight champion Willy Kyakonye got off to a ruthless start when he knocked out Netherlands’ Gino de Fonseca inside just one minute and twenty seconds of his fight in Amsterdam, Netherlands Sunday night.

Hardly had the crowd settled for what was anticipated as a fierce battle when Kyakonye, like a real man on a mission, finished the job within just 80 seconds much to the delight of his coach Sjef Weber and to the shock of Fonseca’s and his home fans.

Fonseca, Netherlands’ number one heavyweight, was seen limping with a seemingly injured left leg and needed his seconder’s shoulder to leave the ring after his first professional loss in four fights.

It is a good start for Kyakonye, who fought in the Aiba World Series of Boxing in the 2015 under the Caciques de Venezuela franchise and a couple of professional bouts in Uganda, before switching address to a Netherlands last year.

Kyakonye, now under the Holzken Promotions, was one of the five national boxers who went to participate in the 2016 Eindhoven Boxing Cup but decided to seek greener pastures in Europe.

In January, compatriot Sula Ssegawa beat Senegalese Djiby Diagne and is plotting for Germany-based Moroccan Bilal Messoudi come April 1. Kyakonye might also be on the cards that night.
