Tamil Lions v JACC (Jinja)
Africa Cricket Club will have not time to mourn the loss of their five star players who moved on to other clubs when they begin their hunt for the traditional Luswata Knock-out Cup against second-division outfit Colombo CC at Lugogo oval this morning.
And without the talents of wicket-keeper/batsman Davis Turinawe, on a self-inflicted decennial leave to Tornado, former U-19 international Saul Kisikwe (Tornado), bowling all-rounder Ezra Mindyo (Nile), fast bowler Dennis Tabby (Premier) and former captain Amos Brian Kyazze (KICC), ACC will be under enormous pressure to kick start the season with victory.
A crowd is expected in Lugogo as the partisan ACC fans witness first hand their new-look outfit in a potential upset that will have a pumped up Colombo outfit test to the limits the 2006 and 2007 National League champions mettle.
ACC’s mainstay stylish batsman Ivan Thawithemwira agreed that the club status quo is on line but referred to the five’s departure as a blessing in disguise.
“We couldn’t refuse them to go were they wanted. Let them play for whatever clubs their hearts yearn for. We had a meeting on Tuesday and vowed to rebuild and recruit only committed players,” said Thawithemwira, in a positive tone. Adding that; “We are going to pull off many shocks this season.” The onus will be on new faces Robert Kalanzi, Enock Muhumuza and Nirav Patel to grab their chances with both hands and cement their places in the starting eleven.
The two Tornados will be in the fray against SKLPS in Entebbe and Patidar Samaj in Kyambogo whereas Tamil Lions will make their debut against homeboys JACC.
