Bobi Wine to support Nemostars’ Cairo cause

Celebrity. Bobi Wine will support Nemo.

KAMPALA. Nemostars can do with any kind of support as they plot to participate at the men’s Africa Volleyball Club Championships for a fifth time. The Aziz Damani National League champions need close to $24,000 (Shs84m) to make the trip for the March 24 to April 5 event in Cairo, Egypt.
“For the last four times, we relied on players’ contributions but right now the times are hard,” captain George Aporu, succinctly told the fans - including Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine - who had gathered for the fundraising night at MTN Arena on Thursday.

Bobi Wine promised to offer his support to Nemostars, who have turned to selling umbrellas, stickers and key holders among other things to raise funds. “Volleyball is also a talent but most importantly there is no politics in sports,” Bobi Wine said amidst cheers from a close to half-full arena that raked in Shs5,215,000 ($1,420) on the night for Nemostars. “I will ensure that this message about you representing the country gets to the relevant authorities. Because at the end of the day, if you win, you sell the image of the country,” he added before making a contribution of Shs1m that also earned him Aporu’s revered No.13 shirt.

On court, Nemo struggled to beat KCCA 2-1 in a ‘best of three’ game. When it came to the most anticipated event of the night; their game against Sport-S, Nemo did not apply themselves well as they lost 1-3 to the league runners up. Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) have organized more games today to help both Nemo and National Club Championships winners Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) raise funds for Cairo.
