Two years ago, Challengers Cricket Club almost ended Tornado Bee’s dominance in the Jazz Safari National League.
Much more was expected last year but the club only came fourth. Currently, Challengers have dipped to now sixth on the eight-team log with 12 points from four outings.

Now business mogul Mohamed Vaheed’s club must wake-up when they meet high-flying Aziz Damani at Lugogo Oval today.
“It’s a big game and we need it,” Challengers’ pace bowler David Wabwire told this paper after a nets session in Jinja on Friday evening.

Whereas T20 masters Challengers have managed two wins and losses to Strikers and Kutchi Tigers, Damani boasts of a 100 percent record in their four matches - totalling to 24 points.
Challengers’ main problem has come down to their top batsmen Arthur Kyobe, Hamu Kayondo and Kamal Shahzad. Neither has starred and little wonder Steven Wabwose had fared better with 127 runs in four innings.

“Our batsmen have to get it right on Sunday (today) if we are to win against a team full of all-rounders. And it’s always easier to win the league title if you win majority of your first round games. So we can’t afford another loss,” Wabwire said.
In contrast, Damani has two players among the top eight batsmen with Saud Islam on 157 runs.
