KAMPALA. The transfer window for cricket clubs is usually a quiet one as officials and players remaining tight-lipped about their next moves.
However, this paper has learnt that recently crowned National T20 champions Challengers have lost heavily ahead of the new Jazz Safari National League season.
Sunday Monitor understands spinners Henry Ssenyondo and Irfan Afridi have departed businessman Vaheed Mohamed’s side to Aziz Damani and KICC respectively.
Afridi was last year’s best bowler with 33 wickets and 14 maidens in 105.5 overs as Challengers interestingly finished a distant fifth in the league. It means Afridi rejoins a club he only left at the end of 2016. But left-arm orthodox bowler Ssenyondo heads to joins the champion Damani, his third club in five years.
“I felt like I needed a new challenge,” said Ssenyondo who won the T20 titles with Challengers for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The former Charity Trust Fund player garnered 18 wickets in the longer format last year.
But while Damani has acquired Ssenyondo’s services, their opening batsman Arnold Otwani, who had 396 runs in 14 innings last season, has left to join Charity Trust Fund.
Otwani played for Charity in 2012, losing the T20 final to Tornado but was voted as tournament’s best fielder.
KICC is deep into the market with Assadu Seiga also set to return to the club he helped earn promotion in 2014 from Damani.
