Lady Cricket Cranes ready to take on world

KAMPALA. There is no place to hide for the Lady Cricket Cranes.
After their heroics on the African continent where they scripted a sensational three-wicket win over Zimbabwe to earn their ticket to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Twenty20 Global Qualifier in September, the national women’s cricket team must show their heroics weren’t a flash in the pan when they make the trip to Netherlands next summer. Captain Kevin Awino and her teammates have been swimming in unchartered waters lately and the onus is on them to show that they can adapt very fast.
Last Thursday, they hit a new high when Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) hosted them to a sumptuous dinner at Imperial Royale Hotel to receive their crown as the Nile Special Sports Personalities for the month of September.
And soon after the African Queens had made merry, news reached them that the ICC Board Meeting in Auckland had confirmed Netherlands as the hosts for the Global Qualifier, whose top two finishers will qualify for the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in West Indies, November 2018.
“We knew our enemies soon after our qualification and now we know the venue of the games,” said coach Grace Mutyagaba.
“It is now time for us to start doing some homework on what type of grounds they have and their weather patterns. We are also going to solicit for our opponents’ videos and see their strengths and weaknesses. I believe we have a real good chance to qualify if we prepare well.”
This will be the ladies maiden appearance at a Global Qualifier after a handful of failed attempts.
