Mukono Parents, Kololo off to flyer in Schools Cricket Week

Had it not been last afternoon’s downpour, many teams would have headed into today’s action with a 100 percent win record in their matches at the on-going Pepsi Boys’ Schools’ Cricket Week.

Busoga College Mwiri’s winning streak was halted after their afternoon encounter with St. James SS was washed out at Budo ground.
But after two days of action, only favourites Mukono Parents and Kololo SS had secured victories in all their three matches apiece.

By last evening, Mukono had confirmed progress to the semifinals after claiming 30 points from a 31-run win over Jinja SS, and opening ten and nine-wicket wins over Agha Khan and St. James SS to top Group A on Saturday.

Yesterday morning, Mukono’s glass was almost broken by Innocent Mwebaze’s figures of 3/7 as they were bowled out for 48 in 11.4 overs by Nyakasura School.

Gerald Mubiru had top scored with an 18-ball 23 knock but it proved enough after Reagan Atuhaire’s 4-2 ensured none of Nyakasura’s batsmen exceeded single figures and were eventually bowled out for 17 in 10.1 overs.

Mukono return to action against Masaka SS and Mwiri at Kyambogo. Meanwhile, Kololo are also yet to concede defeat after Siraj Nsubuga’s knock of 40 off 62 helped them to a narrow 14-run win over Jinja SS at Gayaza.

His knock helped Kololo set 89-8 and despite Joseph Byaruhanga’s quick fire 41 off 28, Nsubuga (3/8) shared six scalps with Ronald Opio (3/4) just enough to bowl out Jinja for 75 with nine balls to spare.
