The man baptised ‘Trophy Machine’ has now won every accolade on the local scene.
This might not be good news for Nemostars Volleyball Club hierarchy after their most successful coach Anthony Ndawula hinted at quitting the club. “I can now retire,” an excited Ndawula said after guiding Nemostars to their first Uganda Christian University (UCU) Open Championship in Mukono last Sunday.
“From Nemostars I mean not from volleyball,” he was quick to emphasize. The UCU title was also the first for Ndawula in his 20-year coaching career. Nemostars defeated Nkumba Navy 3-2 (25-20, 25-12, 19-25, 19-25, 15-10) in an action packed final.
This year alone Ndawula has guided Nemostars to seven titles after reaching 10 finals.
Ndawula has coached KCCA women, Sport-S, Nkumba, Nemostars, Makerere University, Old Kampala and UCU in his eventful career.
If Ndawula moves on, he would have contradicted himself since he made it clear last month that he still had a lot to offer at Nemostars. “I am not about to retire, I still have to see this team defend the league but also become a force in the region and on the continent,” Ndawula said on September 18, 2013.
That was after the 47-year old led Nemostars to their first National Club Championship. It was Ndawula’s sixth as a coach with a sixth different club.
