Ndejje University has ably defended its East Africa University Games crown after seeing off a strong challenge from Ugandan compatriots Kampala International University (KIU) and Kampala University that finished second and third respectively.

The Games, hosted by Dar es Salaam University, climaxed yesterday.
All the three Ugandan institutions garnered 19 gold medals but Ndejje came through with a better overall medal count of 57 with KIU having 41 while Kampala University collected 37.

Ndejje will be grateful to its track and field team that collected an impregnable 11 gold medals. Ndejje also won team gold in badminton (men and women) and ladies’ volleyball.
Other Ugandan universities in the top ten were UCU with eight gold medals in seventh, Gulu University’s four gold medals secured them eighth position while record champions Makerere University, with a meager three gold medal, finished 10th out of the 43 institutions that took part.

Nkumba University that won the men’s volleyball and netball gold finished 12th whereas Kyambogo managed only one gold medal.
